Questions about CAGE codes

What is a CAGE code?

A Commercial and Government Entity code is a five-character ID the Defense Logistics Agency assigns to every company that does business with the US government, such as 1ABC2. Solicitations use it to name approved manufacturers and past award winners.

How do I get a CAGE code?

US companies get one automatically when they register in SAM.gov. Companies outside the US request an NCAGE code from their country's codification bureau first.

What does approved source mean?

DLA solicitations list the manufacturers and part numbers it will accept for an NSN. If your CAGE code isn't on that list, you usually need to quote one of the listed parts or get your own part approved.

Where does this data come from?

From the solicitation PDFs DLA posts on DIBBS. Each one names the approved sources for the item and its procurement history, including the CAGE codes of past winners.
